Another Charity Donation
Captain Roger and Anne (Vice Captain) handing over a cheque for €500 this morning, 20th November 2017, to Bay Radio for the Captain’s Charity, which is in support of The PREVENTERIO ORPHANAGE In Gandia.
Today’s €500 is in addition to the €300 raised on Captain’s Day at Oliva Nova in October, where Paul Tolley,Oliva’s Professional, has been very supportive by donating Golf Lessons as prizes for a number of the raffles.
Roger is seen presenting the Cheque to Sylvia Barnish who on behalf of BayRadio is responsible for administering contributions to charities, and Andy Stammers, co-owner of the radio station.

FRANK CARROLL MEMORIAL TROPHY
In memory of Levante’s last President, Frank Carroll, Campbell Lamont Golf organised a memorial match at La Sella, open to all players in the region. Levante Members provided a large number of participants along with those from other Society’s who knew Frank and remembered his contribution to furthering golf in the Costa Blanc area.
The match was a Two Player Scramble Stroke Play competition, with a Handicap allowance of one quarter of the combined Handicaps. The winning team was Richard Vass and Mike cuerden, appropriately two long standing members of Levante. Although Mike recently moved away from the local area he returned especially to take part in the match.
The full results and details of the match can be found by clicking the icon below.

PLOP! THAT’S ANOTHER EURO FOR ANNE’S CHARITIES
OLIVA NOVA’s third hole was a money-maker for two charities chosen by Anne Edwards during her year as captain of Levante Golf Society.
Players whose tee shot landed in the large bunker on the right of the green or the water which flanks almost the full approach to the left hand side of the hole were asked to plop €1 in the charity box.
This, together with raffle prizes of green fee vouchers donated by Anne’s home course La Sella and also by Oliva Nova, as well as gifts from Campbell Lamont Golf boosted the total raised to €1,200 to be divided equally between the Preventorio orphanage in Gandia, and The Brothers of Gandia.
Anne, whose captaincy ended in December, said: “I send a big thank you to those who provided the prizes and a special thanks to members who, given that it meant a donation to charity didn’t seem to mind too much about missing the green on the third hole!”
Anne is pictured with (third left) Roger Miller, Levante’s vice captain and treasurer, when they visited the offices of BayRadio and met Sylvia Barnish (left) who on behalf of BayRadio is responsible for administering contributions to both charities, and Andy Stammers, co-owner of the radio station.
The first picture shows the presentation of the cheque for the orphanage in Gandia and the second picture shows Anne presenting the second cheque for the Brothers of Gandia to Andy Stammers in February this year.
Captain’s welcome and New Competition announcement
Firstly, Happy New Year to you All.
At today's Drive-in, which was enjoyable although my first Drive was mediocre, I announced that I have decided the Captain's Charity for 2017 will be the Preventorio Orphanage in Gandia.
This decision was made easy, because when I visited Bay Radio with Anne to hand over the cheque for last year's Charity donation, I was very impressed with how the money was used, for example to provide "luxuries" with their meals that we would consider to be basic items, to improve the heating in the Orphanage and much, much more.
From January 2017 there will be a new Senior Golfer’s Competition.
This Competition will be open to all members who are 70 or older as at the 1st January 2017, and the logic behind this proposal is that the older members are still strongly supporting LGS and often struggle to win prizes, but they keep paying for them!!!! All scores will not only count towards the existing Player of the Year Trophy but will also count towards the new Senior Golfer’s Medal.
However, if a Senior Golfer wins a Player of the Year Award then the next highest placed Senior Golfer will win the Medal prize. In addition, the highest placed Senior Golfer in all handicap qualifying games who has not won a Divisional prize that day will receive 1 x Campbell €5 voucher or 2 x sleeves of Balls.
So, if you want to be eligible for these new Prizes then you need to confirm that you are 70 or over by applying to the Captain on email@example.com
Finally, I would like to encourage all Levante members to play "Ready Golf" this year, where possible and safe to do so, as I believe that this will help to improve the speed of play, which in turn will help us all to enjoy our golf.
