DIVISIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS ROUND 1
LA SELLA 2nd JUNE 2017
LEVANTE HAS A NICE DAY AT LA SELLA, MAYBE OR MAYBE NOT……………..
Friday 2nd June saw the opening round of Levante’s Divisional Championship , which is a Stableford competition played over 2 rounds on consecutive weeks. This year the 1st round was played at La Sella with some 20 plus members looking to establish a good score to carry forward to the 2nd round.
On a glorious day for golf with sunshine and minimal winds for most of the round, it would seem that excellent scores would be the order of the day. However, La Sella’s original course always manages to cause grief somewhere, and Friday was no exception for many!
With NTP’s on holes 8 & 15 only one player, Captain Roger, found one of the greens and that was on hole 15 and that was 10.9 m from the pin, as a result there were no 2’s recorded. The best score of the day in Division 1 was from Roger Jennings with 36 points, closely followed by Richard Vass with 35 points. In Division 2 Les Vine with 33 points has a 2 point advantage over Captain Roger with 31 points.
Next week Oliva Nova is the venue for round 2, which can also prove treacherous to the unwary, so it remains to be seen as to whether the current leader board will remain unchanged or, will an as yet unplaced player steal the limelight?
Friday’s match was also a normal Stableford competition and the results of that are also shown below.
Seniors Prize – Roger Miller
Hole 15 – Roger Miller 10.9 m
L to R : John Cook, Roger Jennings, Roger Miller (Captain) Richard Vass, Alan Simpson and Les Vine
DIVISIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS ROUND 2
OLIVA NOVA 9th JUNE 2017
OLIVA SORTS OUT THE DIVISIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS…………
Friday 9th June saw the conclusion of Levante’s 2017 Divisional Championships with the 2nd round played at Oliva Nova in virtually perfect conditions. With the leader board from the 1st round, showing only 4 points separating the leading contenders in both divisions, there was all to play for. The question was who would be able to “tame” the Oliva course with all of its various hazards?
In Division 1, the leader board showed little change and the 1st round leaders remained on top. However, the final order saw Richard Vass move up to 1st Place, John Cook moved up to 2nd and Roger Jennings was unable to maintain the form from the 1st round and slipped down to 3rd, albeit only on lowest handicap rule!
Division 2 saw bigger changes, but Les Vine managed to hold onto his 1st round lead, just pipping Alan Simpson into 2nd place, again on the Lowest handicap rule. Roger miller was pushed off the leader board by Fred Betteridge who came from behind to claim 3rd place.
With NTP’s on Holes 3 and 16, Richard Vass won the prize on Hole 3 and managed to convert his 2.29 m for a deserved 2, the only one of the day. Hole 16 went to John Cook with a distance of 3.72 m.
In addition to the Divisional championship there was a concurrent Stableford match for those members and guests who had not participated in Round 1. Alongside all of this, 6 members were contesting 3 SST Plate matches in the annual Knockout match play competition. The highest ranked Seniors player outside of the main competition winners was Brian Norbury who took the “Seniors” prize. The full results are shown below.
