ROB REWARDS TRAVELLERS WITH MORE PRIZES
Levante’s new captain Rob Westlands has decided to increase the number of prizes when the society travels away from its home venue of Oliva Nova.
Rob feels ‘the travellers’ deserve a bonus for making the effort and yesterday at El Plantio offered the perfect opportunity to boost the prize fund.
The dozen golf balls provided by Campbell Lamont, (which he gives to every society making a booking with him of more than 20 players), made it possible for Levante to add to their usual kitty by having nearest the pin prizes on all four short holes.
One of Levante’s guests was Mick Reeves, (who offers a mobile gripping service), and he too put up a prize, so the 26 players had plenty to play for.
But unfortunately the standard of play did not match the rewards on offer!
The best score of the day came in Division 2, where Brian Clark-Sutton was the only player to beat his handicap, scoring 37 points off 30 handicap, easily beating second-placed Martin Shaw, off 22, who had 32 points, with Dave Geeson, off 25, third a further point behind.
Vaughan Dillon, playing off 17 had 32 points to win the First Division ahead of Peter Hunt, also off 17, who had 31 points. Mike Cuerden (off eight) third was with 30 points.
Those taking away Campbell’s prizes were nearest the pin winners hole Bill Russell on hole 7, guest Ray Parker on hole 9, Dave Geeson on hole 14 and Mick Reeves on hole 18.
The only two of the day was scored by Roger Mallarburn.
Levante’s next meeting is a pairs, better ball event at Oliva Nova on February 17, when a random draw will team up Division 1 and 2 players.
Some of the winners (the others were still defrosting)!
